About Alleppey

The Harmony with the Senses

Alleppey with its enchanting landscape, laced on the west by the golden stretch of beach and the Arabian Sea, networked by silvery rivers, natural fresh water lakes, serene lagoons and majestic palm groves. Alleppey is now matured into a prime backwater tourist centre.

Alappuzha is a district of immense natural beauty. Referred to as the Venice of the East by travelers from across the world, this backwater country is also home to diverse animals and bird life. A singularity of this land is the region called Kuttanad- a land of lush paddy fields referred to as the Rice Bowl of Kerala and one of the few places in the world where farming is done below sea level.

Alappuzha is an important backwater destination attracting several thousand tourists every year. Cruise along the palm-fringed water ways of Kerala in a luxury house boat is the most enchanting holiday experience in India today. In this world of simple pleasures, you'll skim past ancient Chinese fishing nets, water lilies, lush paddy fields, coir villages, rustic homes, temples and coconut groves.

Innumerable lagoons, lakes, canals, estuaries and the deltas of 38 rivers make up the 900 km backwater network of Kerala. The back waters mainly cover four districts of the state-Kollam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Kochi. The largest backwater body, the Vembanad Lake flows through Kottayam and Alappuzha districts and open out into the sea at Kochi port
